PMO is an organizational
unit to centralize and coordinate the management of projects under its domain. The
responsibilities of PMO can range from providing project management support
functions to actually being responsible for the direct management of project.
PMO is an
organizational structure not a person. PMO assign different projects for
project manager and is responsible for result of those projects. PMO manages
major program scope changes which may be seen as potential opportunities to
better achieve business objectives.
Role of a Project Manager:
Project manager
is the assigned person to achieve the project objectives. The role of a project
manager is different from the functional manager or operation manager.
Depending on the organization structure, a project manager may report to a
functional manager.
Effective project manager characteristics are:
- Knowledge - Project management knowledge.
- Performance - Ability to accomplish while applying their project management knowledge.
- Personal – How the project manager behaves when performing the project or related activities. Ability to guide the project team while achieving project objectives.
Enterprise environmental factors
refer to both internal and external environmental factors that surround or
influence a project’s success.
Following are the few factors:
- Organizational culture, structure and processes.
- Government or industry standards.
- Infrastructure
- Existing human resources
- Personnel administration.
- Company work authorization systems
- Market place conditions
- Political climate
- Project management information systems etc.

PRINCE2® stands for Projects In Controlled Environments 2nd edition, offering an introductory level of expertise in project management. The project brief is usually short and can be modified as needed at the start of a PRINCE2 project.
