Perform Integrated Change Control

Perform integrated change control is the process of reviewing all change requests, approving changes and changes to the deliverables and organizational process assets.

Three main objectives are:

Ø  Influencing the factors that create changes to ensure that changes are beneficial.

Ø  Determining that changes are occurred.

Ø  Managing actual changes as they occur.

Below are the configuration management activities included in the integrated change control process are:

Ø  Configuration identification.

Ø  Configuration status accounting.

Ø  Configuration verification and audit.

Inputs:

Project Management Plan:

The project management plan integrates and consolidates all subsidiary management plan includes but not limited to:

Ø  The life cycle selected for the project and processes

Ø  Project management process selected by the project management team, level of implementation of each selected process and description of the tools and techniques

Ø  How work will be executed to accomplish the project objectives

Ø  How changes will be monitored and controlled in change management plan                           

Ø  How configuration management plan will be performed

Ø  How integrity of the performance measurement baselines will be maintained

Ø  Communication among stakeholders

Ø  Key management reviews for context and decision pending

Work Performance Information:

Information from project activities is collected as the project progresses. This information can be related to various performance including:

Ø  Deliverable status

Ø  Schedule progress

Ø  Costs incurred

Change Requests:

All of the monitoring and controlling processes and many of the executing process produce change requests as an output. Change requests can include corrective action, preventive action and defect repairs.

Tools and Techniques:

Expert Judgment:

In expert Judgment, stakeholders may be asked to provide their expertise on change control board. This judgment and expertise is applied to any technical and management details during the process and provided by various sources:

Change Control Meetings:

A change control board is responsible for meeting and reviewing the change requests and approving or rejecting the change requests. The roles and responsibilities of these boards are defined and agreed by stakeholders. All change control board decisions are documented and communicated to the stakeholders.

Outputs:

 Change Requests Status Update:

Change requests are processed according to the change control system by the project manager or team member. Approved change requests will be implemented by the direct and manage project execution process. The status of all changes approved or not, will be updated in the change requests log.

Project Management Plan Updates:

Elements of the project management plan includes:

Ø  Any subsidiary management plan

Ø  Baselines that are subject to the formal change control process.

Changes to the baseline should only show the changes to the current time forward. Past performance may not be changed.

Project Document Updates:

Project documents that may be updated as a result of the perform integrated change control process include the change request log and any documents that are subjected to the formal change control process.
