Difference between Project and Operation:




·                  Ø   Projects are unique and temporary, while operations are ongoing activities and permanent      with repetitive output.
          Ø  Projects are executed to start a new business objective and terminated when it is achieved, while Operational work are performed to keep organization functioning.
          Ø  Projects have definitive beginning and ending, while Operations are ongoing.
          Ø  Projects create a unique product, service, or results, while Operations produce the same product.
          Ø  Projects has a defined start and end date and usually involves implementing, designing or engineering something. Operational work has no real end date
          Ø   Project work has a time frame or deadline. Operational work doesn’t have deadline, mostly deals with the daily basis operation.
          Ø  Project work will produce something different than the organization has produced before. for example: Setting up a manufacturing area or plant would be a project. The manufacturing that happens after the plant is set up and operational will be operational work.
         Ø Projects team are formed to implement projects and then disbanded once the project is completed. Operational teams are consistent.
        Ø  Projects team consist of team members from different departments and different skills sets. Operational team consist of team members from same departments and same sills sets.
        Ø  Project work success is based on project objectives identified specifically and uniquely for that project. Operational work success is based on previous indicators.
       Ø   Project drives change and progresses in the services. Operation protects the services.
       Ø   Projects implement revolutionary change. Operations implement evolutionary change.
